The tasks listed below have been designed to be completed by learners who are working from home. Below the title of each task there is an indication of which learners the task is suitable for.

Current Tasks

Task 13: Festivals & Pilgramage
– Suitable for Learners in S1
– Should take around 100 mins to complete

You have been studying religious practices. This week we will move on to pilgrimage and festivals. Please use the attached worksheet and PowerPoints: ‘Pilgrimage Sites’ and ‘Festivals’ to complete Tasks 10, 11 and 12.

Task 14: Rites of Passage
– Suitable for Learners in S2
– Should take around 100 mins to complete

S2 students: You have been looking at different religious beliefs and practices. Last time you studied Hindu Ashrama Dharma – the idea that there are different stages of life and duties associated with them. These stages are marked by ceremonies. Some of these ceremonies are found in all religions and cultures. One example is that of marriage. For the next two weeks we will be looking at the example of marriage in Judaism.

Complete the activities in the worksheet.

– These tasks vary in length and should take anything between 10-20 mins to complete

Task 2: The Five Pillars of Islam
– Suitable for all Learners in S2
– The ‘Shahadah’ and ‘Salat’ should take about 20-30 mins each to complete. ‘Zakat’ should take about 15-20 mins to complete.

Task 4: S3 Ethical Perspectives Activities

Task 5: Religious and Humanist Practices

– Should take around 60 mins to complete

S1 students should work through the following tasks from the booklet: on religious and humanist practices.

Task 6: Five Pillars of Islam
– Suitable for all Learners in S2
– Should take around 60 mins to complete

S2 students should work through the following tasks on the fourth of the Five Pillars of Islam. The fourth pillar is ‘Sawm’ or fasting.

Task 7: Divine and Command Ethics

S3 students please work your way through the following extension task on divine command ethics.

Task 8: Religious Practices/Humanist Practices – Tasks 5-7
– Suitable for Learners in S1
– Should take 50 mins to complete

Last week you started the booklet ‘Religious Practices/Humanist Practices’. You should have completed everything up to and including Task Four on page 5.

This week, you need to start with the topic ‘Prayer as Appreciation’ and complete Task Five. You should then work your way through the section on ‘Meditation’ and Task Six up to and including Task Seven.

Task 9: The Fifth Pillar of Islam – Hajj
– Suitable for Learners in S2
– Should take 50 mins to complete

Last week you completed work on the first four of ‘The Five Pillars of Islam’. This week we are going to find out about the Fifth Pillar – Pilgrimage or ‘Hajj’.

A link to a short video is included in the worksheet & below. There will be a second lesson on Hajj next week that will ask you to watch and analyse other videos of Hajj rituals.

Task 10: ‘Aquinas and Natural Law’
– Suitable for Learners in S3
– Should take 50 mins to complete

Last week you worked through ‘Plato’s Euthyphro Dilemma’. After discovering Plato’s problems with Divine Command Ethics, it was suggested that not everyone agreed with his views. One of these people was the Christian theologian, Thomas Aquinas. This week you should read and work through the worksheet on ‘Aquinas and Natural Law’.

Task 11: Repeating Prayers and Mantra
– Suitable for Learners in S1
– Should take around 50 mins to complete

Last week you worked your way through the section on ‘Meditation’ and Task Six up to and including Task Seven. This week you should work through ‘Repeating Prayers and Mantra’ etc. and complete Tasks Eight and Nine.

Task 12: The Stages and Duties of Life
– Suitable for Learners in S2
– Should take around 50 mins to complete

Last week you should have completed the work on ‘The Five Pillars of Islam’. This clearly showed how beliefs and practices structure the lives of Muslims. A similar structure is found in Hinduism. This is ‘Ashrama Dharma’. However, having a structure or map of life is common to most cultures, whether that map is religious or not. Please read through the worksheet and complete the tasks.
